Dominick's Diary

The first, official site for Dominick Dunne, and his army of fans from every continent.

Dominick Dunne, the iconic writer and world's most charming yet democratic dinner companion is addressing serious medical issues. Because Dominick has been generous with his columns and books, entertaining and educating us, (if it wasn't for his sleuthing skills and relentless digging and prodding, Martha Moxley's murderer would still be free); now we can reciprocate!

So with Dominick as the common denominator, lets let Dominick know how much we appreciate him, by dropping him a note to wish him well.

Happy reading, Dominick!.

You are not only a national treasure, you are beloved by all Americans. Your great talent and wit have entertained the world for decades. When Truman Capote died I said, "I will never read another novel again." Then I discovered you! When you get to meet the Big Guy in person, He is gonna say, "What kept you so long? We've been waiting patiently for your arrival. All your friends are here. I'm so glad to see you. Your life was a life well lived and I am very proud of you!" Then you're gonna get a big hug! But that's a ways off, isn't it?

Hello Dominick,

A quick note to say that I have been following this column with enthusiasm as much as I am able to this year. I am very happy to announce that I have read three of your books now - and am completely converted. I'm doing my best to read them in chronological order. I am not much one for idol worship and such but am having great difficulty not succumbing to the enticement with which I am being drawn by your words. I am enjoying immensely the feeling that the benchmark for what I read has been lifted to a new level. So now I have greater expectations for other authors to rise to that. It's the knack you have for seeing around the corners of the mind. I have had to take a break (alas) get on with a few other things, like work ;-) and will embark on your next book asap. I am also now scouring book shops for old copies of VF so that I can read your column which I am now hearing so much about.

On another note, Melbourne is recovering slowly from the fires (and floods north of Brisbane). I noticed on your website earlier that you had made a mention of this and was impressed by your concern. Everyone in Australia is touched deeply by the international concern and support. Winter has blown in to the southern hemisphere with all its 'wintriness' and we are now very cold indeed. We had snow a month early - it may as well be the next ice age looming as Antarctica whips us with its winds. It's almost impossible to think that such a short while ago it was as brief as it was so very hot here. I make light of Melbourne being 'sunny'. It's not unusual to have heaters and electric blankets on at times during our summers here. And it is a national pastime here to poke fun at this city's extremely inclement weather. Who would have thought?

I am hoping that you are feeling and getting better with all the resources that are available to you. I do hope that you are enjoying your summer and that it doesn't bring with it the hazards we fear.

Winter brings with it the Melbourne International Film Festival in a few weeks which is now almost a year since I first saw your documentary. I wonder what it will bring this year. More delights.

Please continue to get better so that we can have 'more of you'. Looking forward to "A Solo Act".

Cheers
Jennifer

Dear Mr. Dunne,
I have been an avid reader of yours for as long as I can remember. I have read all of your books many times, and some I've had to replace due to "overreading", if that's possible.

I was sorry to hear of your illness and hope you are doing well. I was surprised to read of your stem cell treatment in the Dominican Republic, and hope it helped.

I also wanted to thank you for being an advocate for victims' rights. My family recently lost a member in a violent crime, and something you wrote stuck with me and I have shared that sentiment with my family. You wrote about how important it is for the victim's family to attend every hearing, every court date, every item that has to do with your loved one's murder. You wrote something to the effect that these hearings and court proceedings are important for the family to attend because it has to do with the last business of the victim's life. We need to show the court that the victim had a family, friends and loved ones. We will be there for the last business of Tim's life, and thanks to you and all the work you've done, we will have the strength to do it for him.
